  74.     following files.  Please ensure that each file is present.  If
  75.     any of these files are missing then the package is not complete
  76.     and is not suitable for distribution to others. The complete

  122. IMPORTANT NOTES:
  123. ================
  124. 1)
  125. We no longer distribute the ShareSpell spelling checker with Vision
  126. Edit in order to keep the size of our distribution file to minimum. 
  127. You can find ShareSpell or another spelling checker in most BBSes and 
  128. shareware archives.

  130. 2)
  131. If you used any of the older versions of Vision Edit (< 3.5), make 
  132. sure you have removed ved.opt, all ved.dsk, and all *.cmd files. The 
  133. new options and desktop files are not compatible with the old ones. If 
  134. you do not remove the old ved.opt and ved.dsk warning messages will be 
  135. displayed: "Error reading Options file." and "Error reading Desktop 
  136. file.".
  137.  
  138. 3)
  139. We recommend that you add Vision Edit directory to the PATH statement 
  140. in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file e.g.: PATH=C:\DOS;C:\VED;
  141.  
  142. 4)
  143. For a better performance we recommend that you install expanded memory 
  144. and a disk cache software if possible.
  145.  
  146. 5)
  147. Beginning with version 3.5 we introduce educational package which may 
  148. be ordered by educational institutions only (e.g. Universities). For 
  149. details see REGISTER.DOC.
  150.  
  151. 6) Only for owners of Northgate Omnikey keyboard
  152. The owners of a Northgate Omnikey keyboard may experience problems 
  153. with some special keys e.g. arrow keys. We include MSOMNI.EXE utility 
  154. that fixes that problem. If you want do use it start Vision Edit as 
  155. VED_OMNI (there is a batch file VED_OMNI.BAT) instead of VED.
  156.  
  157.  
  158. VGA Installation Procedure
  159. ==========================
  160. If you have a VGA graphics card that supports other screen modes than 
  161. the standard ones (e.g. 132 columns) Vision Edit is capable of using 
  162. those screen modes. However, before other screen modes can be used, 
  163. you have to install them by following the procedure described below:
  164.  
  165. 1) - If you have one of the following graphic cards: 
  166.                    ERGO-VGA, SPEEDSTAR, or TRIDENT go to step 3. 
  167.    - If your VGA card manual lists all supported text modes
  168.                      go to step 2. 
  169.    - Otherwise, run TESTMODE.EXE (provided with Vision Edit) and write 
  170.      down all useful text modes from 0 to 255. For each mode which you 
  171.      want to use in Vision Edit write down: mode number, number of 
  172.      lines, and number of columns later required by MAKEDRV.EXE 
  173.      program. TESTMODE.EXE displays all the necessary information 
  174.      (mode number and number of columns is already displayed), to 
  175.      count the number of lines use down arrow key and go to the bottom
  176.      of the screen, the last number when cursor is still displayed
  177.      defines the number of lines).
  178.  
  179. 2) - Run MAKEDRV.EXE program (provided with Vision Edit) 
  180.    - Create a new driver for your card by selecting Driver|New menu 
  181.      function. (Enter the name of the new driver - MYDRIVER.DRV and 
  182.      press Enter )
  183.  
  184.    - New entry dialog box is displayed. To navigate a cursor use "Tab" 
  185.      key or a mouse.
  186.      - Enter a Name; press "Tab" key
  187.      - Enter a Version character; press "Tab" key
  188.      - now to add, edit or delete modes press "Ins", "Enter", or 
  189.        "Delete" key respectively ( read status line )
  190.      - press "Ins" : dialog box for entering mode information
  191.        is dispalayed (enter  - the NAME for a mode press "Tab"
  192.                              - the MODE number press "Tab"
  193.                              - the number of COLUMNS press "Tab'
  194.                              - the number of LINES press "Enter"
  195.        this procedure repeat so many times as the number of modes
  196.        identified in step 1
  197.      - exit the program                          
  198.  
  199. 3) Copy a created (or selected) driver (*.DRV) to Vision Edit home 
  200. directory and rename it to STANDARD.DRV.
  201.  
  202. 4) Start Vision Edit and select "Options" item from Menu Bar. Select 
  203. the Change Screen Mode item from pull-down menu you should be able to 
  204. see a dialog box containing all your screen modes.
  205.  
  206.  
  207. MACRO DEMOS:
  208. ============
  209. The following Macro-Demo files have been provided with Vision Edit:
  210. DEMO.MAC, DEMO1.MAC, DEMO2.MAC, DEMO3.MAC, DEMO4.MAC, DEMO5.MAC.
  211. In order to use any macro-file you have to add it to a list of macros 
  212. using a function Read Macro from the Macro menu. After the file have 
  213. been added to a macro-list you can run it by selecting it from the 
  214. list (in Macro menu). DEMO6.MAC is not intended as a separate demo - 
  215. it is called by DEMO5.
  216.  
  217. ENTERING ASCII CODES:
  218. =====================
  219. You can enter ASCII codes directly from the keyboard - hold down Alt 
  220. key, enter ASCII code from the numeric keypad and release Alt key. 
  221. ASCII codes can be entered both into active window and into 
  222. Search/Replace dialog boxes.
  223.  
  224. You can also send ASCII codes to the edit window from the Ascii Table. 
  225. If you want to enter characters with ASCII codes < 32 into 
  226. Search/Replace dialog boxes you have to press Ctrl-K and then Ctrl-A 
  227. for #0, Ctrl-B for #1, etc.

  306.  
  307. In order to install Vision Edit on your hard disk do the following:
  308. A) If you have the original Vision Edit diskette (Shareware Version):
  309.    1) Insert the Vision Edit diskette into your floppy drive A or B;
  310.    2) At DOS prompt C:> type in a command: a:install (for drive A)
  311.       or b:install (for drive B);
  312.    3) Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
  313. B) If you downloaded VISED36.ZIP from a BBS or from other source:
  314.    1) Create a directory for Vision Edit on your hard disk e.g. MD C:\VED
  315.    2) Copy VISED36.ZIP to this directory e.g. COPY A:\VISED36.ZIP
  316.       C:\VED
  317.    3) Position yourself in VISED directory e.g. CD C:\VED
  318.    4) Unpack VISED36.ZIP using PKUNZIP.EXE e.g. PKUNZIP -X VISED36
